Video: Beyond This Point - "Fallen Star" Live @ Santos Pary House

Friday, January 8, 2010

Back when I attended Five Towns College, I wasn't your typical "Lets get wasted!", dorm room living, frat joining type of student. I went there, went to class, smoked, and went back home. During my breaks I found myself gravitating towards a table full of loud, animated, and musical people. That table was where Beyond This Point was born, and I was lucky enough to witness its infancy. As vocalist Travis "Switch" Mendes says in the beginning of the video, BTP is definitely a sound of it's own. I can vouch for Jon Campbell and Mylon Hayde's ability to craft some serious stuff. I remember hearing Jon killing the keys, in full focus in a practice room at Five Towns. I remember listening to Mylon's early beats, demo BTP songs, and discussing the underground that was influencing us.That guy with the shades and the tie? That's Brandon Hall. He's a beast of a vocalist, and a pretty big asshole.

With the addition of instrumentalists Bernard Julien (Drums),Andre Lyles (Bass), Joe Scuccimari (Guitar), BTP has brought a different dimension to the group and its live show. This video is of their performance during Dream Hyghe's Nu Soul R&B showcase @ Santos Party House (which has a great sound system, by the way). I'm very happy and proud to know these guys and see what they've accomplished. Hopefully 2010 will be a great year for all of us!
